IUE Department of Business Administration Hosts Young Business Administrators at “Business Games”
The first of the promotional activities, intended for high school students, called “Business Games” was organized by Izmir University of Economics, Department of Business Administration on April 27-28, 2013 on campus. The students and guidance teachers, from İzmir Özel Türk Büyük Çiğli Koleji, Selma Yiğitalp Anadolu Lisesi, Teğmen Ali Rıza Akıncı Anadolu Lisesi, Şukufe Cemal Özbaş Çok Programlı Lisesi, and Özel İzmir Martı Koleji Anadolu Lisesi, who attended the Business Games, were hosted at IUE campus on the weekend for two days.
On Saturday, April 27 at 08.30, the students and guidance teachers were greeted at the gate and directed to games camp. The students got a chance to get to know each other through “To Be a Team, Leadership, and Motivation Game” co-coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Burcu GÜNERİ ÇANGARLI and Dr. Selen ÜNLÜOĞLU. After warming-up and teaming exercises, the students discussed management topics such as leadership, motivation, team-working, and creativity with “Paper Plane” game. The students had their lunch at the main cafeteria with members of Business Administration Club, and had a tour around the University. Following that, the students were told to use computers for “Operations Management Game”, coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yiğit KAZANÇOĞLU, where they learned to set up a factory from scratch via simulation program they used.
The event continued on Sunday, April 28 with “Guerrilla Marketing Game” co-coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz ATİK and Lecturer Dicle YURDAKUL ŞAHİN. In this game, the students learned to create a marketing campaign by using Guerrilla Marketing techniques in order to market a product they chose. In the last session in the afternoon, the students learned how to use their business investments in the optimum way by making investments with a specific amount of capital that were given at “Monopoly Game” coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Yasemin KARAİBRAHİMOĞLU. After the games were over, the winners; Erol Pekmezoğlu (Davutlar Şukufe-Cemal Özbaş Çok Programlı Lisesi), Erkmen Gülada (Teğmen Ali Rıza Akıncı Anadolu Lisesi), Birben Coşkun (Teğmen Ali Rıza Akıncı Anadolu Lisesi), Başak Sayın (Teğmen Ali Rıza Akıncı Anadolu Lisesi), and Ayşegül Tabaklı (Teğmen Ali Rıza Akıncı Anadolu Lisesi) were given their certificates and gift checks. Also, all of the participants were given “Young Business Administrator” certificates. After a 2 day long activities, the students, who had a chance to get to know Izmir University of Economics and Department of Business Administration better, stated that they wanted the very entertaining and productive event to be repeated every year.
Prof. Dr. Serdar ÖZKAN, Head of Department of Business Administration, awarded the participants with certificates for “Business Games” , and said they were going to organize the event every year with new fictions and a larger participation, and continue as a tradition in the coming years.
