Silver medal in Italy
Onur Cavit Biriz, a national surfer and student of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), won the silver medal for our country by placing second in the International Games held in Italy. Biriz, competing in the ‘IQ Foil’ category with 29 athletes from different countries, added a new medal to his collection, leaving behind many ambitious competitors with international medals. Biriz, who came second and received the silver medal in the Hyeres Medal Races hosted by France last May, repeated his success in the international arena in a short time, making our country very proud. The total number of medals in the career of IUE Business Administration student Biriz reached 80, including national competitions.
Onur Cavit Biriz (25), who has been interested in water sports and passionate about the sea since his childhood, started windsurfing at the age of 9. Biriz first took lessons from private coaches, and then enrolled in a private club and improved himself rapidly in a short time. Biriz, who strictly followed the training and meal schedule and worked 6-7 hours a day, was rewarded for his efforts by being selected for the National Team at the age of 14. Biriz won first place in the youth category in Turkey in 2015 and 2016, and then in the general category for three years in a row.
STUDIES BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Having achieved a streak that is difficult to achieve and collecting medals and trophies one by one, Biriz also realized his goal of participating in the Olympics, which was his biggest dream. Biriz took great pride in representing our country in the Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Continuing his education at Izmir University of Economics, Department of Business Administration, Biriz achieved yet another accomplishment in surfing and returned from Italy with a silver medal.
IF THE ASSERTIVENESS ENDS, SO WILL THE SUCCESS
Stating that every competition in which he represented Turkey internationally gave him great excitement and pride Biriz said, “In surfing, you always have to be strong and pay attention to your nutrition and life. I pay attention to all these in order to ensure continuous success. I have a regular training tempo that does not conflict with my classes. I sometimes train 4-5 hours a day. It may seem difficult, but I'm used to this pace, I don't have much difficulty. I also had a very nice and successful competition in Italy. I lost the first place at the last moment against strong competitors. However, I am happy that I brought the silver medal to my country. The athlete's goal never ends. If there is a decrease in your self-confidence or assertiveness, know that you are close to falling away from success. I love surfing, I work hard and I always motivate myself. Surfing, like any other sport, is not something you can do without loving it. I will continue my work with the aim of increasing my medals by participating in new international competitions.”
OUR SUPPORT CONTINUES
Stating that they are proud of Biriz, IUE Sports Coordinator Murat Palalı said, “As Izmir University of Economics, we always support sports and work to provide new opportunities for our students. We also provide educational support to our student athletes. Cavit is an athlete who makes us proud with both his hard work and achievements and whom we look up to as an example. We are happy to have an athlete like Cavit at the University. I believe that Cavit will continue to increase his successes and bring us new joys.”
